Watchmen movie

Ξ July 23rd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ art, awesome, movies, videos |

Here is the trailer….

Many people wonder, what is this Watchmen stuff?? Well, Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series that came out in the mid-eighties (later it was published as a graphic novel). It was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. It remains the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award, and is the only graphic novel to show up on Time Magazine’s 2005 list of “the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.” Impressive, huh? But what is it about?

From Wikipedia: Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternate history United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (the Doomsday Clock is at five minutes to midnight). It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neuroses and failings, and who—with one notable exception—lack anything recognizable as super powers. Watchmen’s deconstruction of the conventional superhero archetype, combined with its innovative adaptation of cinematic techniques and heavy use of symbolism, multi-layered dialogue, and metafiction, has influenced both comics and film.

Well, I am really looking forward to this. I hope it lives p to the hype. Something that is very hard to do.

New Batman Movie

Ξ July 22nd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ awesome, movies |

batman rockin out

I saw batman this weekend. With all the reports on how amazing Heath Ledger was, I can honestly say I was still surprised on how he portrayed the maniacal clown. Awesome! The Dark Knight made $155 million, which beats Spider-Man 3’s opening weekend record by over $4 million. The Dark Knight has made $66M on Friday alone. Not only was the movie awesome, but there were great previews. One for Watchmen, which looks cool. I never read the graphic novel. There was also a preview for Terminator 4 (Terminator Salvation), another movie I am looking forward to.

It has been awhile. Did anyone miss me?

It has been awhile since I last updated. Since then, I got a new job. I was worked to the bone for my last 2 weeks at my old job. Now with my new job, I could never imagine working at the old place ever again. Whew! Its nice to be out. Freedom!!! Getting used to a new job is a strange thing. You don’t know if people like you, you don’t know what you are doing. Working too fast, too slow. Good enough? Its tiring. People  swarming you and expecting you to remember names, even thought you met something like 20 people in 10 minutes. On top of remembering where you sit, login info, restrooms, lunch break schedules etc. Its a lot to remember. But besides all that, the new job is great. I do know that could change, because I am still in the “Honeymoon” phase. But for now, it rocks.

Also saw Hancock. Pretty good flick. Par for course for Will Smith though. A solid action flick. But I don’t think I will remember it a couple years from now. Like 300, Sin City, or Fist of Legend. What I am looking forward to this weekend is seeing Batman. I hope there will be tickets available. I know every Batman nerd in existence will be standing in line. Much like the LOTR nerds before them.

In the mean time, enjoy the video for Katy (KAY-tee) Perry. She hearts Bing Bong.

Or, if you are not into that, check out the video below. Mgmt - Time to Pretend

Top 5 (Recent) Badasses in Film

Ξ June 18th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ awesome, crazy, movies, videos |

This list has been made many times. And many of them are good. But here is my take on it. The requirements are: kills, how badly people want to be them, must be same character in more than one movie.

5. Jason Bourne
Coming in at number 5 might sound shitty, but it is not. Jason Bourne is a certifiable bad ass. The only reason he comes in at number 5 is that his Kill count is pretty low. But he is young. Plenty of time to fix that. The character has been in 3 movies, maybe soon to be 4 (only rumors). Also, I dont know many people that go around pretending to be Jason Bourne. But he edged out James Bond. That’s saying something.

4. Aragorn
Lord of the Rings has many bad asses, but Aragorn is the biggest badass. His Kill count is extremely high. The only problem is that he was killing mythical beasts, who are so incompetent that they would have a hard time stealing candy from a baby. He also has been in 3 movies. But he is moping around in each one. Deduct points there. And I know a few children that go around pretending to be Aragorn. I think more kids pretend to be Legolis. Which is a sin. Orlando Bloom is not a bad ass. Loss of points there too.

3. John McClaine
Bruce Willis became a super star after the first Die Hard movie, the movie that forever changed the way action movies were made. They have rounded this out with 4 movies. His kill count is not as high as Aragorn’s, but he was fighting highly trained European baddies and not a bunch of morons from Middle Earth with the combined IQ of Forest Gump. Most guys I know have at one time of another quoted this movie, or pretended to be McClaine in some way. And if anyone of you have ever fired a pistol, you have pretended to be McClaine at least once.

2. John Rambo
Rambo First Blood was originally a book. A book so bad ass that the Green Beret came to the screen and made 4 movies, with Rambo 5 on its way in 2009.  No one (that i know of) knows Rambos true kill count, but it seems to be escalating with each movie. He only killed one person in the first movie. He can take out armies with just his knife and bare hands, and helped bring and end to the Cold War (He fought Soviets in both Rambo 2 and 3). He is getting old, but there is no denying that he is still a bad ass. People join the army wanting to be as bad ass as Rambo.

1. Conan
Arnold’s career can thank this movie. Everyone knows Conan is a major bad ass. 2 movies. There is talk of a 3rd (remakes are all the rage right now). Not recent? Conan’s “bad-assness” is timeless. Kill count is respectable. Everyone wants to be Conan. And if there are still questions, see the video clips below….

Punisher Teaser

Ξ June 17th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ crazy, movies, videos |

Here it is. The Punisher: War Zone Trailer. And you know, it looks crappy. I was a fan of the Punisher when I was younger, and it bothers me that they cannot get this movie right. The Thomas Jane movie was ok, but this is direct to DVD garbage. And too bad. I like the actor. See what I mean, and watch the trailer.

The Swear Jar

Ξ June 13th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ awesome, beer, humor, videos |

Sometimes, due to the fact Americans are turning into pussies, the best commercials are often left to live a life only on the Internet. And never see the light of day when it comes to Television. Proof that Americans are turning into pussies? Check my “Don’t forget to feed the puss” post. That is a European commercial. Anyway, this one here is one of my favorites. The Swear Jar. If we had one of those here at my current office, holy shit. I would be floating in beer money. Wait a minute…..
